Now tell him that no one can live anywhere for 40 years without seeing a great deal. What has he seen?
I have grown to expect more from Terrance Fisher. What went wrong?
Well, on hindsight and after a sleep, not much. However Stranglers of Bombay remains a slog to the end. It really hasn't aged well with the colonial tale of the thugee cult treading a hugely predictable route. Parts of the film were obviously taken wholesale for the later film “Terror of the Tongs” even down to Roger Delgado playing the same part in both films.
Directed well the film just slightly fails to grab attention, it suffers from its black and white format as it would benefit greatly from colour and the mono format does not add to the atmosphere as it would in a horror. My copy also suffers from a terrible butchering into pan and scan format, crippling Fishers directorial skills.
Take a look but don't expect too much.
