The Terror of the Tongs (1961)

Returning to the land of Hammer I take in this 1961 Christopher Lee flick. Can the unsullied run of Hammer excellence continue…unsullied (I need a thesaurus).vlcsnap-2011-08-29-20h40m33s186

In a word, no. Terror of the Tongs is a poorly plotted and tiresome film. People behave in wholly unbelievable ways and the plot is as thin as a supermodel on a diet. The colour treatment is good and the film looks nice but the editing is rough and slapdash in places and the budget is obviously non-existent.

The film is notable by its cast, as a Doctor Who fan I was pleased to see The Master (Roger Delgado) as the Tongs second in command, Burt Kwouk (Cato in the Pink Panther films) has a minor role and there is of course the always excellent Christopher Lee. vlcsnap-2011-08-29-21h43m19s220

This really is far too little to save what is essentially a tiresome film and it is not a movie i will be revisiting in a hurry.
