What a dreadful trailer.
The Dish is actually a thoroughly enjoyable film making me do that thing that most true stories do…hit Google. Apparently it, like most True Stories, takes liberties with the truth leaving it open to a fair degree of criticism. I see this argument and discount it.
As a dramatisation detailing the moments leading up to the moon landing The Dish is fantastic. Its nice to see Sam Neill again, for some reason he is no Hollywood darling. Its is great to see a film in this Millennium that is not afraid to rely on plot and character to tell a tale.
The greatest thing that The Dish did for me was to capture the awe of a time when man stood on the Moon. I missed this and will probably never see it in reality, such a shame.
Ignore the awful trailer, ignore the awful promos and DVD covers and watch this film for what it is. A fun look at the sheer worldwide effort need to not only land a man on the Moon but to show him doing it.
Well recommended.
