Freeze me is a chilling (see what I did there?) tale of a rape victims revenge. Its a subtitle fest being Japanese and is controversial for the amount of “sexual violence” it contains.
Freeze me was fine in concept but it failed to grab me. The victims complete failure to resolve the situation particularly when she is offered opportunities on a plate make no sense to me. The threats of the rapists to expose her and their apparent lack of understanding over their crime is baffling, however the true bizarreness occurs when her Fiancé discovers her rape AND LEAVES HER. This is while the rapist in still staying with her.
Now the questions here are whether the film has lost something in translation (I don't think so), if Japanese culture is so different from ours that rape victims are the criminal (I hope not) or is the film poorly plotted and bizarrely conceived. Unfortunately i suspect the latter.
Freeze Me is a deeply flawed sensationalist movie that looks great but bears no scrutiny at all.
