Doctor Who: The Dalek Invasion of Earth

First the bad.

The direction on this story is awful, the fight scenes are sometimes woeful, the manic Bongo and xylophone music is hideous and the story has several huge plot holes.

Now the good. The outside broadcasts for this story suddenly make a programme that is normally restricted and cheap looking…lavish! Who would have thought I would ever say that about a Doctor Who story. Alongside its peers from the same era the programme is still incredibly cheap but in context with the surrounding stories and certainly those that precede it the serial looks like it has had cash thrown at it.

To be honest perhaps I am odd but I love this story. It evokes wonderful feelings that early Doctor Who tended not. The lump still arrives in the throat at Susans departure for instance.

I can forgive this story its flaws because for me it really is the standout 1st Doctor Sci Fi story.
