Is it wrong to admit that I was a little underwhelmed by Inception? Technically it was fantastic, the story was complex and fresh by Hollywood standards and the pacing good, the visuals are absolutely stunning. So what turned me a little cold?

Well I found it rather a slog to keep up the concept. To say I didn't get it would be untrue but I found myself spending far to long thinking about the concept of “The Kick”, Levels of dreaming and Limbo when really I should have been enjoying the film. I also struggled with the passing of time and physical travel which seemed very poorly portrayed, a deliberate hint that the real world is a dream or poor work on the writers part?

I also had problems with the rationale of the film. These people expend great time and effort, risking their very lives…but…the whole task is immoral. With analysis of the motivations on display its actually rather difficult to feel positive about the job at hand, which is essential to use mind control on the poor mark (risking his mental heath in the process).

Inception is a breath of fresh air in a decade plagued with insipid movies and remakes, but for some unknown reason seems to lack the essential spark that I need to truly enjoy a film.

Worth a look and well regarded. Just be prepared to think… a lot. Perhaps on a rewatch i will have a more positive reaction.

Paul Out.
