Requiem Trailer

This is a German film based on the same real life case as “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”, where an Epileptic girl becomes increasingly fragmented and psychotic. It very well filmed and dramatically is excellently done. It has a gritty realism to it and, although it never really blames the church, it does very much make a point of showing ambiguity in what occurs.vlcsnap-2010-07-04-22h11m44s148

Michaela's fits are quite disturbing and this I guess is what led my rental people to class this as horror. It isn’t. As a drama it really dwells far more comfortably alongside life dramas such as “Who will love my children” and to this end was not really a win for me. Towards the end it began to feel very tired and lacked any real emotional payoff with the resolution of the events and the real dramatic crux being portrayed in two lines of text at the end.

I guess the right person would enjoy this, there's not much in it to make it a bad film and for pretty much the first half I was enjoying it. I just found there to be very little meat to its bones. Perhaps this is why true stories are often so elaborately expanded upon, as if you stay close to the fact you get an essentially lifeless film.vlcsnap-2010-07-04-22h11m18s148

Not for me, but not awful.

Paul out.
