I’ve had a reply from the ASA

asaLogo If you haven't read the original post on this go to Too much Tango made me complain to the ASA. Go now RUN, fly, fly, fly little Starling.

Right now you are back lets tell some more of the story. Today I received a lovely letter from my friends at the ASA detailing not only my complaint but what had been said about other ads in the campaign.

BRITVIC SOFT DRINKS

Thank you for contacting the Advertising Standards Authority.

We have received complaints about the below Tango advertisements…

It then goes into details of complaints for six of the adverts. I will paraphrase now for the sake of clarity.

Ad1:

tango_hi_res-5-500x749

This was complained as offensive to people with Ginger hair. They believed it could encourage discriminatory behaviour against people with ginger hair and could lead to the bullying of children with ginger hair.

Complainants also were offended by the reference to pubic hair.

VERDICT: NOT UPHELD

Ad 2:

tango_hi_res-1-500x748

Complainants objected that Ad2 was offensive because they felt it implied oral sex with a bull. Complainants objected that the advertisement was not suitable to be seen by children.

VERDICT: TO BE FORMALLY INVESTIGATED

Ad 3:

tango_hi_res-9-500x749

Complainants objected that he use of the word “guffs” in Ad 3 was offensive. Complainants objected that Ad 3 was unsuitable to be seen by children.

VERDICT: TO BE FORMALLY INVESTIGATED

Ad 4:

tango_hi_res-8-500x749

One complainant objected that Ad 4 was offensive and unsuitable to be seen by children. The complainant objected that the advertisement implied the shaving of ones’s vaginal hair.

VERDICT: TO BE FORMALLY INVESTIGATED

Ad 5:

tango_hi_res-10-500x749

Complainants objected that Ad 5 was offensive. Complainants objected that the advertisement could encourage sexism and the abuse of women.

VERDICT: NOT UPHELD

Ad 6:

tango_hi_res-3-500x749

Complainants objected that Ad 6 was offensive and could encourage cruelty to animals.

VERDICT: NOT UPHELD
